Born in Arcata, California in 1973. Currently resides in Austin, Texas with wife Melissa and child, expecting a second child soon.
Gus graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1996 with dual Bachelor's Degrees in Art Studio and Sociology. Gus had the good fortune to study with artists like Cornelia Schulz and Wayne Thiebaud for several years. He also studied music and played drums in many bands, touring and recording extensively throughout the 90's and early 00's. Gus swam competitively for 15 years and achieved All American status 16 times with UCDavis.
Gus has been a lifelong artist, but since leaving the career of coaching youth swimming in May 2012 has devoted his full attention to building a studio, drawing, painting, researching and creating every single day.
He strives to make art that is bold, evocative, emotional and mysterious. He considers his work to fit historically with lyrical abstraction, tachisme, and informal movements yet it retains an unavoidable affinity with the modern human condition.
